Weekly Nutrition Tips 2 --- Weight Management 1

One of the basics of nutrition is calculating calories.

In order to maintain weight, the amount of calories consumed by a person should be same with the energy expended. To lose weight, a person need to consume less calories that he/she expend. In contrast, a person who wishes to gain weight needs to consume more calories then he/she expended.

The intake of calories is through the consumption of food and beverages. Meanwhile, energy is expended through our daily activities and exercise.

There are numerous of applications on the internet that you could use to calculate your ideal daily energy intake. You can try them. ^.^

Weekly Nutrition Tips 1 -- Body Mass Index

Hey all, as a Food Science and Nutrition student, I would like to share with you some basic nutrition tips, which I think can be quite useful as nowadays people are more concern for their health. Thus, besides displaying the items for sale in this blog, I've decided to start on a Weekly Nutrition Tips section where I could share my knowledge with everyone here.

Well, let's start with some basics:

Ever wonder whether you are underweight, normal or overweight?? Here's how you can check whether you are underweight, normal or overweight:what you have to do is to calculate you Body Mass Index (BMI) -- Weight (kg)/ Height (m) x Height (m):

BMI Category
<18 -- Underweight
18-22.9 -- Normal
23- 27.4 -- Pre-Obese
>27.5 -- Obese


*BMI is used to estimate a healthy body weight based on a person's height, assuming an average body composition.
